Getting Rid of Blemishes, the Easy Way
Zits tend to show up at the most inopportune moments. The pesky little blackheads or pimples wait until a big date, a significant event, or an important meeting to appear out of nowhere and attempt to ruin your confidence. Read on to learn about getting rid of blemishes so that you can be prepared next time.
Have a little bit of patience.
Before you take matters into your own hands and pop your zits or apply some form of spot treatment think about what type of blemish you have. If you make a mistake, it could lead to long-lasting damage like scarring or discoloration, or just spread more bacteria which will lead to further breakouts.
When a blemish appears your body’s healing mechanisms will automatically come into play, you will naturally try to fight the infection before you can apply any type of topical treatment.
Treat pimples with caution.
If you are suffering from a pustule type of blemish, this is the type of infection that results in a visible whitehead, the infection can take multiple days before it becomes apparent. The part of the blemish that is visible is just the body’s natural way of getting rid of the infection.
You might be tempted to pop the whitehead, or worse scratch the head of it. The best way to deal with this type of blemish is to wait until the full infection appears before applying a spot drying treatment. If you prematurely try to eradicate it, you will dry the skin and cause flakiness, blocking the whitehead will only keep the infection trapped in your pores.
When to actually pop a zit.
When the full whitehead has appeared then gently squeeze the whitehead. If you wait until the entire blemish has appeared it should pop without any resistance, try covering the fingers with cotton pads of tissue as to not spread the infection. It’s best to use spot drying treatment after popping the white head, this will remove any residual infection. The best spot drying treatments to use will contain zinc oxide.
What are cysts?
Another type of blemish you may have is a cyst, this infection will stay embedded within the skin for a prolonged period of time. The body will absorb the infection but it could take up to three weeks to dissipate.
Cysts should never be picked despite how painful they may feel under the skin’s surface. The best way of soothing a cyst is applying ice on the area for ten minutes every two to three hours, this will help reduce the swollen red area. There are topical treatments that specifically target cysts, this will help not only dissolve the infection but stop any future ones.
Cysts can sometimes be caused by dairy consumptions if the blemishes appear on the chin or jaw area try cutting down your use.
Add an exfoliating routine.
Once you have healed your blemish try minimizing the leftovers of said breakout with gentle exfoliation. Try Jericho’s Foaming Facial Scrub which is perfect to keep in your rotation since its rich in Dead Sea minerals, Vitamin C and Chamomile extract which helps maintain healthy moisture levels in the skin. Also, use oil-free based products to help you combat acne. The Drying Acne Soap, Acne Mud Mask, and Oil-Free Facial Cream are all options to help ease the severity of acne and replenish the skin.
Wear sunscreen daily.
It’s important to use sunscreen daily as UV rays can cause scars to darker or appear redder in color. Add a good face sunscreen to your skincare routine and remember to reapply after 2hrs of sun exposure.
None of us are exempt from breakouts and blemishes, even when we are out of those tricky teenage years. The best way to keep blemishes at bay is by maintaining a consistent skincare regimen and being patient when you do get a breakout and not prematurely pick at it.
