Secrets About Spider Veins
You might know about your “friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man,” but what about the evil spider veins? Spider veins are small blood vessels that twist and turn just underneath the surface of the skin. While they are harmless, spider veins often come with slight pain and discomfort. Although many people probably know what spider veins look like, most don’t know much about it! We’re here to dish a few secrets about spider veins.
How do you get it? Spider veins are something that is often associated with older women. The older you get, the easier it is for blood vessel damage. While many people believe there are tons of ways to develop spider veins, there are only a few.
Spider veins are predominantly hereditary. This means that if someone in your family has spider veins, it’s a possibility that you might develop them as well. Spider veins can also be attributed to sun exposure and hormonal changes, so there’s a limited amount that can be done to prevent them.
Where can you get it? When spider veins occur, you’ll usually see them on the backs of the legs or the face. This doesn’t mean that these are the only locations you can get them. Spider veins can actually appear on any part of the body!
How do you prevent it? Unfortunately, there’s only a certain level of spider veins that you can avoid. Since it is mostly considered genetic and hormonal, there aren’t tons of things you can do to stop yourself from getting them. One thing you can do is be sure to use sunscreen! Spider veins that appear on the face are heavily attributed to sun exposure, so be sure to carry that SPF everywhere you go.
Another thing that can help is to stay active! Spider veins can also form from a lack of circulation in the legs. If you have a job that forces you to sit at a desk all day, make sure you take breaks to move around.
How to fix them? If you surf the web, there are tons of home remedies that range from using herbs to apple cider vinegar. For those who want a more official treatment, there is a procedure called sclerotherapy where your doctor would inject a solution into the veins that would help them fade.
Spider veins are probably more common than you think! While you might be worried about how to stop it in your future, there’s only a limited amount you can do. Stay active, wear sunscreen, and always talk to your doctor!
