Under Eye Treatment

by | Jul 9, 2018

If we say “skincare,” what’s the first thing that comes to mind? You’re probably thinking about acne or dark spots. Your mind might even travel to sagging skin, but one thing that many people leave for last is their eyes!

Treating your skin is relatively easy when compared to the skin around and under your eyes. Since the area is extremely delicate, it’s hard to reverse any damage you might’ve already done, but it can be done! From treatments to habits to adopt, these are some of our favorite under eye fixes.

SLEEP

If you’re trying to work on the skin below your eyes, the first thing you should do is get some sleep! Going without sleep is going to exacerbate any under-eye issue you’re dealing with. A crucial part to everyone’s life, sleep is what’s going to help lessen those dark circles.

STAY OFF YOUR FACE

While it might be hard to control what your body does while you’re sleeping, you should make a conscious effort to fall asleep on your back. Sleeping on your face can put a lot of wear and tear on the skin underneath your eye, and you might find a few lines and wrinkles sooner than you’d like!

CUCUMBERS

While many people believe that cucumbers have some magical healing power, they really don’t! Even though there’s nothing IN cucumbers that’s going to help the condition of your skin, placing them underneath your eyes will help. Since cucumbers are refrigerated, it’s actually the temperature that’s going to help you. By putting them underneath the eyes, it will help reduce puffiness and inflammation.

SUNSCREEN

Sunscreen is something that’s beneficial to your skin as a whole, but it can also help with the area under your eyes. If you have dark circles under your eyes, being out in the sun can actually make them appear darker. Instead of allowing this to happen, be sure to apply sunscreen under your eyes to prevent the sun from further darkening the area.

SERUMS/CREAMS

There are hundreds of different under eye creams and serums that you’d find on the market, but there are a few ingredients you should pay special attention to. One, hesperidin methyl chalcone is what will help prevent the dark circles that are caused by capillary leaks. Two, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide works to increase collagen production which is what’s going to keep the area looking firm and young.

The eyes are an extremely sensitive area of the body, and it’s absolutely necessary to be mindful of the kinds of products you’re putting on the area. When in doubt, seek the advice of a dermatologist!  Whether they’re providing you with a prescription or mentioning a few habits do adopt, your under eye area will definitely get better!
