The Power of Red Wine

Who doesn’t love it when their favorite thing also turns out to be surprisingly good for them? Yes, my fellow red wine devotees, it turns out a glass of wine a day may indeed keep the doctor away (or at the very least help brighten skin and shiny hair!)

For Hair

We all dream of having that lush, Disney-princess mane, and guess what? Red wine is here to help! Since it is believed to help improve circulation, that means that adequate blood circulation will reach the scalp, which goes a long way to preventing hair loss. Since red wine also reduces inflammation and the formation of dead skin cells, your scalp is even freer to grow more thicker hair.

For Health

Have you ever found yourself in a red v. white wine debate? Well, be prepared to pull this out of your arsenal: red wine actually has way fewer sugars than white wine, as well as being higher in choline, which reduces inflammation and actually works to prevent liver damage! In fact, according to nutritionist Anshul Jaibharat, “In terms of alcohol, red wine is the least in calories and has a good amount of antioxidants.”

Red wine also boasts a high amount of tannins, which lower the risk of heart disease and stroke, while resveratrol, an antioxidant present in red wine, works to prevent blood clots by removing certain chemicals.

Our favorite liquid hero is also here to take on cholesterol. Resveratrol can not only help raise good cholesterol but also lower the bad. And if you love to chow down on delicious dark meat, red wine also works to prevent the release of harmful compounds that could further raise bad cholesterol.

For Skin

Want glowing, younger skin? Polyphenols present in red wine can prevent cell oxidation, which plays a big part in the aging of skin. Resveratrol also helps protect your skin from harmful UV-related effects, further turning back the clock.

On the flip side, if you’re prone to breakouts or adult acne, that same resveratrol can also slow the growth of bacteria that cause acne, and inhibit lesions.

So, sit back, relax, and enjoy that Merlot with the knowledge that you aren’t just relaxing on a Friday, you’re working on your health!
